First let me start by wishing you all a very happy new year and I hope you all had a restful and relaxing winter break! I also hope that you used some of that free time to work on Rank or Merit Badge Advancement!
It looks like we have an honest to goodness winter storm coming our way tomorrow night and into Monday. As a result, we are going to go ahead and CANCEL the meeting on Monday. The next meeting will be on January 13th. Please note that we will also hold our first PLC of the year next Monday at 6:45.
I will call your attention to a few upcoming events and schedule updates. More information to come on this, however, thanks to the efforts of Mr. Dalton, we reserved two lanes at Chinquapin Rec Center on Sunday January 12th from 2:30 to 4:30 for a Swimming Merit Badge Class. All scouts who have not completed the merit badge are invited to attend this class, however, preference will be given to scouts who are working toward the Scuba Certification and/or who are registered for Sea Base this summer. If you intend to participate in either of these activities, you MUST complete all the requirements for the Swimming Merit Badge prior.
Second, we adjusted the first two activities of the year. The Backpacking Trip will now take place in January and the Caving trip is shifted to February. This was due to scheduling conflicts with our Caving Guide. Note that the February trip also shifted forward a few weeks. We are still working to lock the caving trip down and hopefully will have confirmation soon.
Finally, on Saturday February 22nd, Mr. Farmer has agreed to run a training session; Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST). Some of the older scouts may remember that this was previously run by Mr. Rodger. All scouts who are currently in Leadership Positions are expected to attend. It will likely be a morning session from 9:00 to Noon.
SERVICE – WREATHS OUT
See the note below that I received from the district. Any scouts who would like to participate is free to attend, just track your service hours!
Great service opportunity for scout units. Arlington National Cemetery just announced they are holding their annual removal of wreaths, known as “Wreaths Out,” on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025. “Wreaths Out” is when ANC safely conducts the removal and recovery of approximately 267,000 wreaths which honored our nation’s heroes and their family members during the Christmas season. Will send more information as the date gets closer – normal start time is between 8-9am. No need to sign up – just show up with your scouts at the ANC entrance.
