Jan 26-28  Freeze-O-Ree at Camp Snyder

     The Freeze-o-Ree is an annual Goose Creek District overnight camping event hosted by our District Chapter of the Order of the Arrow. The weekend is filled with fun and skills activities, beginning with camping on Friday night and ending with check-out on Sunday morning (must depart by 10:00 am). Saturday evening’s campfire includes Awards presentations too bountiful to adequately describe here.
     A Horde of Yeti’s – the famed “Abominable Snowman” has descended upon our beloved Camp Snyder. Are  they  friend  or  foe?  We  must  embrace  Yeti  Mania  with  an  amazing  display  of  Scout  Skills,  Fun,  and  an incredible  Campfire,  awesome  enough  to  warm  even  a  Yeti’s  cold  hear Troops who embrace the Yeti Theme will get extra points and special surprises!

Feb– It is time for what T-131 does best- BACK–PACK–ING.  We are a backpacking Troop, and we are going back to basics.  Come one come all, it will be a great trip.
Who: All T-131 Scouts
What: Backpacking trip
When: Fri 16 Feb to Sun 18 Feb
Where: Appalachian Trail
Why: Troop-131 is a Backpacking Troop
Cost: Just $10 for everyone

This is a real backpacking trip, not car camping.

Mar 15-17 Shooting Sports at Bull Run

Who: Sharp Eyed Shooters

What: Troop 131 Shooting Sports Extravaganza

Why: We love a Rootin Tootin Shootin Time

Who: All the avid (and junior) fisherman we can find

Where: The Cove Campground (about 2 hours from Alexandria)
Why: Give a Scout a fish (and he’ll throw it)….Teach a Scout to fish……

May 16-17 Bike Trip
Who: Everyone with a sense of adventure who loves the outdoors (i.e. SCOUTS!!!!)
What: Riding into the sunset (or at least along the canal)

Why: Let’s Ride!

June 23rd – 29th: Summer Camp

July 13th: Crime Prevention Merit Badge/Walking Tour

Who: Everyone interested in learning about law enforcement, crime prevention and seeing some cool police gear and tech (i.e. SCOUTS!!!!)

What: Visit to the D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department Emergency Response Team (i.e. SWAT Team).
When: Sat,13 July, Afternoon (11:30 to 2:30)

Where: Washington, D.C. 
Why: To speak to police officers serving on the front lines in law enforcement and crime prevention on how they do their jobs and the challenges they face, and to learn about what you can do to prevent you or your community from being victims of crime.  You will also get to see specialized equipment that the SWAT Team uses in their work.

Cost: None 

August 9th-11th: Patrol Outings

September 13th-15th: Camping – Climbing Trip at Rock Enon.

Who: Everyone in Troop 131 is invited!
What: NCAC Climbing and shooting weekend
When: Fri 13 – Sat 15 Sept

Why: Climb to the sky

October is busy

October 6 is the Will Roger memorial project at Camp Snyder.

We need a really big turn out for this.  It is just an afternoon, and it is in memory of our former Scoutmaster, and good friend, Will Roger

What:  Conservation project at Camp Snyder in memory of Will Rodger
When: Sat 6 October, 2:00 PM start
Where:  Camp Snyder
Why: We all loved Will
Cost:  Free to all, just need your love and help

We will do a Cast Iron Cooking Event at the end of the day.
Conservation project is 2:00-5:00 and Troop Cast Iron Dinner is at 5:00
Will was an amazing leader and gave his all to Troop 131 and our Scouts.  He was an avid rock climber, outdoorsman, and conservationist.  Please come and join us for an afternoon to remember him, and to give back to Scouting, at Camp Snyder, and join us for a fellowship dinner of cast iron cooking, one of Will’s favorites.

October 18-20  Camp-O-Ree is an All Hands (all Scouts) event.  We expect all Scouts to attend.
Everyone is Automatically Signed Up. 
If you are going to miss this event, please let me know ASAP.  This is a very important event that helps keep the Troop going, by meeting all the new and incoming Arrow of Lights.
