I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! I just got back into town after celebrating Chinese New Year in Philadelphia … it also happened to coincide with the Eagles beating the Giants … needless to say, there were some very happy folks in Philadelphia today!
The ACPS scouts have the day off tomorrow for a Teachers Work day … in lieu of video games it might be a good day to work on a Merit Badge or Rank advancement … hint … hint!
TROOP MEETING:
We will have an in-person Troop meeting at 7:30PM at Immanuel Church on the Hill this Monday.
The meeting will be packed, with a PLC, BoR (for two scouts) and a visit from Pack 614.
For the PLC, the SPL, ASPL’s, Patrol Leaders, Scribe and other leadership will need to arrive ½ hour early and at 7:00.
JACK SNOWDEN EAGLE PROJECT:
We are very fortunate to have so many scouts working on their Eagle Projects. Jack Snowden is working on his now and see email below from him.
Please support him if you can!
Hello, Troop 131. Jack Snowden here and I am working on my Eagle Scout Project. My project is building and installing birdhouses for the Sunny Garden Master Gardeners at Bon Air Park in Arlington, VA. Each birdhouse will be for a different bird species. Each bird species will help the garden by feeding on different pests that damage the plants. The birdhouses will also have a QR code that visitors to the park can use on their phones to learn more about that specific type of bird.
There will be two workdays. Because of restrictions on certain types of tools, only older Scouts will be able to help on the construction day. Installation day will be open to all Scouts. During installation day, we will also be cleaning up the park and doing any needed repairs. A small breakfast (donuts) and lunch (probably pizza) will be provided. Thank you for your help!

AVIATION MERIT BADGE RECAP:
See email update concerning the Aviation Merit Badge Walking tour:
Last Saturday, a group of 131 Scouts headed out to the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum near Dulles Airport to work on requirements for the Aviation Merit Badge. Led by Mr. Dalton and Mr. Irwin (a retired Air Force pilot, no less!), the Scouts traced the arc of American aviation history from the Wright Brothers’ first flight, through both World Wars, and to the advanced fighter jets and space exploration of today. After discussing the forces at work on an aircraft, and how lift is produced, they climbed into the cockpit of a Cessna to test out the flight controls and inspect the primary flight instruments. The Scouts learned about different types of engines, as well as options for aviation careers, and even spread out a sectional chart to begin learning how to plan their own flight. Who knows — there could be an aspiring aerospace engineer in the group!
SCOUT SUNDAY:
A Scout is Reverent!
Our sponsor Immanuel Church on the Hill has invited us to participate in Scout Sunday on February 5th (10:30) at IMMANUEL CHAPEL – please note that this is the same place as last year, but NOT where the troop meets regularly.
- They are looking for about 5 volunteers to participate in the service including 1-2 to carry the cross and 2-4 as readers. There are 2 readings, a Psalm, and prayers of the people.
- Fr. Randy would like to have a quick run through on Monday 1/29 for the volunteers.
- The church also invited Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouts from other troops who are members of the congregation to wear their uniforms and join in the day.
- This service will be put into the bulletin and weekly parish email.
If you can, please support our sponsor!
