Scoutmaster-Update

Troop 131,

hope you are well and enjoyed your weekend! The skateboarding was a great success last week and thank you to the leadership team that put it together.

The board of reviews is this week, and we have a few candidates going up for rank awards. If you would like a BoR on Monday, then please let Mrs. Farmer know.

There is lots of information and service opportunities in the email this week, so please take the time to read all the way through it!TROOP MEETING

We will have a Troop meeting at 7:30PM this Monday at Immanuel Church on the Hill!

This meeting will focus on preparation for the fishing trip as well as First Aid for fishing-related injuries!  We have close to 25 scouts and 10 adults going on this trip (which is awesome) so meal planning is critical!  Each patrol should check their patrol bins, make sure you have all the right gear, fill out a duty roster and make sure you are clear on who is getting food!  Remember, each patrol is responsible for bringing their food.

I also believe that this will be the meeting when we decide on the design for the summer camp t-shirts.  We have lots of entries so thank you to all the scouts who submitted a design!

NEW SCOUT PATROL ASSIGNMENTS

Sorry for the delay in getting this out, but for now I would like to assign the new scouts to the following two patrols. We will get you official patrol patches at Monday’s meeting. The transition season is still in full swing, and we may still have some additional new scouts join the troop.  If we get over 6 new scouts, then we will put you all in your own patrol!  Goats and Penguin Raiders, (now that you are veterans) please look after these new scouts!

NATHAN WELLS EAGLE PROJECT- PART 1

Nathan is starting to work on his Eagle Project and needs your help! If you are not going on the fishing trip, then consider helping him out.  The project will support our Sponsor, Immanuel Church on the Hill!  See information below and link to sign up!

The goal of the project as a whole is to construct a pathway behind the Church, and stone barriers around the Church and gardens. The stone barriers are intended to protect the Church building and structure from debris caused by excessive rain. The pathway is meant to create a more comfortable method of walking through the backyard space of the Church, as it is very muddy at this point.

Event Address: 3606 Seminary Rd, Alexandria, VA 22304

SERVICE PROJECT- ARBOR DAY PLANTING

See information below from Ms. Wargo to help plant trees for Arbor Day.  This is another good way that we can help support our amazing sponsor!

Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) students are hosting a small tree-planting on their campus on the morning of April 27th, 9-10:30 am. Any scout who wants to help plant trees is most welcome! Please sign up here if you’re interested.

They’re meeting on campus at Trotter Bowl, which is the field along Quaker Lane at VTS. The address 900 N Quaker Lane generally works for map apps, it takes you onto a road called Aspinwall Lane. You can park along Aspinwall Lane on the right side of the road, and the field to the right is Trotter Bowl.”

Thanks for your help!

Lo

ILOS TRAINING

We need at least two ILOS trained adults on every camping trip.  I know we had one parent who just completed their ILOS training this weekend, but I would certainly encourage anyone who wants to camp with the troop to consider taking the training.

There is an upcoming session on June 15th and 16th.  See information below:

06/15-16 – Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

https://www.scoutingevent.com/082-iolsspring24

This training is for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, Associate Crew Advisors who need to complete their program-specific training requirements, as well as those other adult volunteers who want to help with the outdoor program activities and basic advancement skills.

EAGLE SCOUT SCHOLARSHIP

The rotary club of Alexandria Offers Scholarships to local Eagle Scouts. While this only applies to current seniors, this is something to consider for next year or the subsequent years!  Yet another reason to get your Eagle!

Scholarship Opportunity

Application due May 10, 2024

For more information visit https://www.ncacbsa.org/colonial/district-resources/scholarships/

SUMMER CAMP SIGN-UP

The early bird pricing has unfortunately passed; however, it is still not too late to sign up!  We have 15 scouts and 4 adults who are attending, and it should be a lot of fun! Not to mention, four of your Troop mates will be counselors at Olmstead again this year!

Please contact Mrs. Lacayo if you would like to go!

CLIMBOREE- Registration Opens April 27th.

I know it seems crazy to sign up for an activity that will take place in the fall, however, the Climboree is very popular, and we cannot reserve empty spots.

Registration opens April 27th and last year all the spots filled up very quickly.  We want to make sure that everyone who wants to will be able to attend.

All the scouts who went last year had a great time, so please see the information from Mr. Mulvaney and please sign up if you would like to go!!!
