Scoutmaster-Update

Troop 131,

It was a great weekend of service, including Scouts who helped at the MVCS Big Flea, the Four Mile Run cleanup, the OA Fellowship, and of course our very own Troop 131 Car Wash! It is wonderful that we have such a big troop and can support so many activities—all on the same day!

Now let’s reload for next weekend—please sign up below for the NCAC Orienteering Meet. This will be a day trip for us (not camping) and is an important Scout skill to keep sharp, especially for all the Philmont Scouts.

A special thank you to Mr. Mills and Mrs. Devlin for organizing the Car Wash. I’m very happy to announce that we raised just over $1,700 (the highest ever) for the troop. Considering that it was overcast and we had the threat of rain in the afternoon, this was a tremendous achievement. I was also gratified to see so many Scouts helping and keeping their energy up. A special call-out to the marketing department—otherwise known as the “street crew”—for their enthusiasm and creativity in bringing the cars in!

Summer camp crew: see note below!

TROOP MEETING

We will have a Troop meeting at 7:30PM this Monday at Immanuel Church on the Hill! Your leadership team will have a good plan!

CLIMBOREE- OCT 9-12th

Thank you Mr. Grocki for registering the troop for the Climboree this year.  We have 14 scouts and 6 adults attending.  While the 3+ hour drive is a little long, the activities are certainly worth it!

NCAC ORIENTEERING MEET- MAY 2ND

The Orienteering meet is this coming weekend.  This is only a day trip and is an important skill for all scouts to have.  I would like as many of the Philmont Scouts to attend as possible, because I really don’t want to be lost in the hills of New Mexico in August!

We’re planning on participating in the NCAC Orienteering Meet this year in a few weeks.  More details can be found at the link below.  This event is highly encouraged for Philmont scouts to help prepare for navigation requirements on our trek.  All scouts are welcome and this is a good way to fulfill requirements for the merit badge.

We are not planning on making this a camping event, so it will just be a day trip with an early start.  We’ll need to be down in Prince William Forest at 0800.  Please sign up at the link below so I can get us registered.

Participation is highly encouraged for all Philmont Scouts, but all are welcome.  We’ll start again from Jones Point Park and if we get road support some people can just do the first half.  Please sign up below and let me know if you have any questions.

GOSHEN CAMP UPDATES
It is hard to believe that camp is just over two months away. See note below from your summer camp coordinators!

Also, if you paid $100 when you signed up, we will apply this $10 toward the camp T-shirts. Please note, the T-shirts will likely be a bit more than $10 each, so we may ask for a supplemental payment after we order them.

Transportation: The bus to Goshen leaves early July 5 from the Fairfax County Government Center. Bus tickets this year cost $90; if you haven’t already, all scouts need to pay the treasurer via Zelle:
treasurer@t131.org so we can register for the bus in early May.

Medical Forms: To attend Goshen, campers need to have Form A, B and C filled out — Form C MUST be filled out by a physician based on a physical within the past year, so will require parents to contact a medical professional.

All the medical forms needed for camp can be found hereWe’d like to have these documents completed and collected by June 15. Mike or Meghan will be available at the end of each Troop meeting to collect forms. This paperwork must be on hand for campers to board the bus to camp on July 5.

Thanks much!
Meghan
