I have lots of Thank You notes this week!
I understand the Caving trip was great and a big thank you to Mr. Mulvaney & Mr. Teixeira-Moffat for organizing it and Mr. Grocki and Mr. Gross for providing additional adult leadership! I look forward to seeing photos and hearing all the cool stories!
I also want to thank Mrs. Farmer, Mr. Wells, David Lloyd and Nathan Wells for a very engaging and successful Eagle workshop on Wednesday night. I am looking forward to seeing the next group of scouts working on their Eagle and community service projects. We will certainly do this again next year and for the next cohort of potential Eagle Scouts!
Thank you to the following Scouts who helped teach on Scout Skil Sunday, Owen Farmer, Jonathan Nguyen, Ryland McDonald, Thomas Grocki, & John Grocki!
Also, I neglected to congratulate Nathan Wells who held his Eagle Court of Honor during Memorial Day weekend. I was out of town and not able to attend, however, it looks like it was a great ceremony!
Finally, I want to call out the following Scouts and Scouters from our troop who will be leaving for Goshen- Camp Olmsted as Counselors next weekend. This is a significant commitment of time, and I am so proud that we have so many people who volunteer in this way.
- Andrew Devlin (Counselor in training – 3 weeks)
- Tadhg Devlin (Lifeguard- 6 weeks)
- Luke Irwin (Counselor in training – 4 weeks) (former member)
- Gable Muldoon (Lifeguard- Part time)
- Isabel Ramirez (Unit Scouter Reserve- Lifeguard- full 6 weeks)
- Theo Ramirez (Lifeguard- 6 weeks)
Most troops are lucky if they only have one or two scouts, the fact that we have 6 current or former members is beyond amazing! Thank you all.
As a result of dropping Theo and Isabel at Goshen, Mrs. Vivian and I decided to take a long weekend, and I miss the scout meeting next week. If you need anything, the other troop leaders can certainly help you out!
TROOP MEETING -PLC & BoR
The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) is this Monday. All those in (new elected) leadership positions should attend. The PLC begins at 6:45 PM and prior to the regular meeting.
We will have a Troop meeting at 7:30 PM this Monday at Immanuel Church on the Hill!
Following last week’s elections, we have a new leadership team so please give them your patience as they get their feet underneath them. The theme for this week will be rank advancement review and sign offs. Especially after the last two camping trips, this will be a great opportunity for you to have the attention of the older scouts so be sure to bring your book!
In addition, we are holding our monthly BoR of review. Please let Mr. Farmer know if you are ready for your next rank! I believe we have 2-3 scouts ready for their reviews.
As I mentione
I will miss the meeting next week and will take a long weekend.
PATROL ORGANIZATION
As typically happens at the time of elections, we need to reorganize the patrols a bit. Given that we have quite a few scouts who either have their Eagle or are about to age out (seniors in high school) I am announcing the retirement of the Moose Patrol! Farewell to the mighty Moose, you served us well for many years!
In addition, all active members of the Nylon Patrol have been moved to the Mustachios Patrol. We will keep the Nylon patrol active for our graduating seniors and those that have their Eagle rank. There are no other changes to the other patrols!
INNOVATORS in MOTION – RAFFLE
First let me thank the 5 scouts who volunteered to attend and participate in the fundraising event on Sunday. As part of this effort and to help raise money, I created a special merit badge display (see image below) that we will raffle off during the event. If anyone is interested (and if you are a total scout nerd like me), I am happy to collect money at the troop meeting and purchase raffle tickets for you.
The display includes all 139 current merit badges and is in a 24”x30” black shadow box. At retail each badge costs $3.59 so the value of this display with the showdown box and materials is almost $700 total!
Ticket prices are listed below:
1 for $20
3 for $50
8 for $100
All proceeds from this event go directly to the National Capital Area Council!
WOGGLES and NECKERCHIEF
There were a few scouts missing from the meeting last week, be sure to see me at the meeting so that you can get your new Woggle!
Also, and as Arthur mentioned at the meeting, during the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) you are not required to wear your T131 Neckerchief to meetings! You still need to wear your Class A uniforms, just not your neckerchief. Please keep it and your woggle in a safe place, because you need it again in September!!!

FUNDRAISING CHAIR
Parents: Putting out a call out for a volunteer to act as our fundraising chair. After a very successful term, Sue Setliff is stepping down and we are looking for someone to take over. The main responsibility is to help run and organize our annual fall fundraiser – Wreath Sales. We have a good system already set up and the only limiting factor is that you have a garage or basement to temporarily store the wreaths for a few days and until the scouts can pick them up for delivery!
This is a great (and limited way) for you to get involved and help the troop. If you are interested in volunteering for this role or have questions, please let Stacey or I know. Thank you!
LIFESAVING MERIT BADGE – July 19-20
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Devlin has organized a special two-day Lifesaving Merit Badge Class at the local YMCA. The cost is $20 per scout. Prior to attending Scouts need to have their Swimming Merit and read the Lifesaving Merit Badge Book. You can either buy a copy, check one out from the troop library or download the free one at the link below:
https://www.scouting.org/merit-badges/lifesaving/
Most new scouts going to summer camp should have their swimming merit badge by the end of the week, so the timing is perfect. Lifesaving is one of the Eagle Required Badges.
Saturday, July 19th, 1:00 – 5:00 PM at YMCA Alexandria classroom (wearing Class Bs is okay, but scouts should bring a swimsuit/towel in case we have time to get a head start with in-the-water techniques)
Sunday, July 20th, 1:00 – 5:00 PM at YMCA Alexandria pool (scouts should bring swimsuits/towels; also wear clothes they can remove quickly to perform a ‘rescue’)
Please email Mr. Devlin (and copy another adult) if you are interested in attending.
