Scoutmaster-Update

Board of Review – Monday

Lots of great advancement this month!

Camporee, October  18, 19, 20 Gunston Hall

Last week’s meeting was a great tryout of some of the activities we will be managing.   On the docket this week is:

First  Aid Skills/Stretcher Relay Challenge

The activities are Initiative games:

Plank Walk

Hazardous Waste handling challenge

Mission Impossible

Spy game challenge

Minefield

We’ll be leading other scouts, so all scouts need to be familiar with the games.     All scouts helping run the stations will get some special bling from the Camporee!

Elections – October 21

Help your Troop, Gain Requirements, Run for a Troop Position!  Coming soon on October 21.  Please remember, if you are going to run for Senior Patrol Leader, you MUST come speak with your Scoutmaster before the elections to understand the requirements and expectations!

Merit Badge Counselors needed!

Adults!  Do you have a skill you would like to share?  Want to help out the Troop?  Then become a Merit Badge counselor!  https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/merit-badges/  All you need to do is fill out the Adult Application and Merit Badge counselor form (attached to this email).  Don’t be afraid to choose numerous badges, you don’t have to teach a class, just help the Scout learn!    Note that before interacting with the Scouts you must take Youth Protection training  https://www.scouting.org/training/youth-protection/

 Service Opportunities

Saturday September 28 is National Public Lands Day at Prince William Forest Park and a number of other National Parks in VA.  Known as the nation’s longest single-day volunteer effort, the day helps celebrate the relationship between people and the community around them, inspire environmental leadership and encourage others to take advantage of the outdoors for education, recreation and general health. Many of the available service projects will be focused on removing invasive species, trash pickup, river and shoreline cleanup, trail maintenance, habitat redevelopment and environmental education programs and activities. You can submit your name to volunteer between the hours of 9AM and 1PM here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdBTI79GhFsFEBk8vbKbi6dSYrDSrvaMZywaxObjieDTt6AjA/viewform).

Notes from the Senior Patrol Leader:

– PATROL LEADERS – It is your responsibility to touch base with your Patrols and be sure that they are paying attention to the Skills Training and working on their Advancement

– CELL PHONE USAGE – Not in the troop meetings, except with very few exceptions when they are being used for advancement or merit badges.

– It is no longer Summertime – wear your neckerchiefs!

– BRING YOUR SCOUTBOOKS TO THE MEETINGS!  Opportunities for Advancement are being wasted just because Scouts don’t remember their books.
