Scoutmaster-Update

Troop 131,

Sorry for the late email today, it was a combined birthday and anniversary weekend at the Ramirez family, and we had a packed weekend.

Thank you to Mr. Rodger for the activities last week at Velocity, it was a good meeting for all of us and I was glad to see that our bikes were generally in good working order.

IN PERSON MEETING:

We will have an in-person meeting Monday at 7:30 and Immanuel Church on the Hill.

This will be the last Monday where we will not have access to the Parish Hall, so all activities will be outside.  Weather looks good so far but be sure to dress appropriately and bring your head lamp.

WELCOME NEW SCOUTS FROM PACK 129

As of last weekend, we have five new scouts from Pack 129. I would like to extend a hearty welcome to:

Mathew Berson

Andrew Devlin (Tiges Brother)

Luke Irwin

Ryan McDonald

Henry Mills

Remember, a scout is Friendly, so I ask that all of you to make an effort to integrate the new scouts into our meetings and activities.  Remember, we were all the young new scout at one point in time!

SHAKE DOWN RIDE:

We are planning on having a Shakedown Ride to George Washington’s Mt. Vernon this coming Saturday.  Along the GW parkway this is about 12.6 Mile route or 25 Miles round trip.

·        Meet at 9:00 AM at the George Washington Middle School Parking Lot (in front of the Base Ball Fields)

·        Ride to Mount Vernon (2 hours) and have a break and early lunch

·        Return to GW Middle School- back by 2:00 at the latest.

·        Wear your Troop T-shirts

·        Bring plenty of water, some trail snacks and lunch.

Please email me directly if you plan on coming so that I can have a head count. I will need one or two other adult volunteers to ride we me (two deep) and I could use another adult volunteer or two to meet us at Mt Vernon in case we have scout that needs road support.

MATHEW HAYMES EAGLE PROJECT:

See below the message from Mathew Haymes.  If you are not going on the Bike & Camping Trip, then consider volunteering for his Eagle Project.

Scouts! Matthew’s Eagle Scout project workday this Sunday, May 1st, is being postponed. Complications with delivery have moved the workday to Saturday May 14th at 1:15-4:00. This obviously clashes with the troop bike trip so if you were planning to go on that, DO NOT sign up for my project. I hope to see you on the 14th. More details can be found at the updated sign up link here: https://signup.com/go/EuTVHjF Volunteers who were signed up for the original work day have been moved to the 14th, please change that if you know you can’t make it.

BIKE & CAMPING TRIP:

See message below from Mr. Mulvaney, please sign up if you intend to come with us on the 50 Mile (Round Trip) activity.

And now that you are all ready to ride, let us know if you will be joining in for the fun. It is only a Saturday (14 May) and Sunday (15 May) trip.  We will leave Saturday morning from Georgetown (right under the Key Bridge at the start of the bike path) and Return to the same location on Sunday afternoon to Georgetown- 25 miles there and 25miles back.  Horsepen branch is a Primitive site right along the towpath.  We will need a few adult volunteers (with big vehicles) to bring gear and get to the site early so that we can reserve a spot.

Lots of hands make light work.  We need drivers, riders, campers, helpers, etc.  Even if you can’t do a lot, we can use a little help along the way.  So please let us know if you can join in the fun:

May Bike Ride and Campout

JUNE RAFTING TRIP:

We are trying to gage interest in the June Rafting Trip.  There is something on this trip for everyone.  White water rafting for the older boys (14 years and older) as well as flat rafting and other activities for the younger scouts.

Please note, that this is the last day of School for ACPS and FCPS.  They both appear to have early release/half days, so even though we have a long drive, our assumption is that we can leave early afternoon for this trip.  Since this is the last day of school, we also thought this trip would be a great way to kick-off the summer!

This is an expensive trip, so we want to make sure we have sufficient interest.  Yes or no, we ask that you please fill out the survey.
