Scoutmaster-Update

I hope everyone enjoyed the winter break and are ready for an exciting Scout year!  We have lots of great stuff in store for the next 6 months and into the summer and I hope you all are as excited as I am about what is coming!

TROOP MEETING:

We will have an in-person Troop meeting at 7:30PM at Immanuel Church on the Hill this Monday.

Please note that there will be no meeting, next week and in observance of the Federal Holiday.

The meeting on January 23rd will be packed, with a PLC, BoR (for any eligible scouts) and a visit from Pack 614.

I would add that the twice-annual Court of Honor is just around the corner (on February 6th), so for any of you who have few remaining rank or merit badge requirements, now is the time to get them done and signed off!

TROOP CALENDAR:

See attached the current version of our Winter/Spring troop calendar.  We have a very exciting first half of the year, with lots of activities and outdoor events planned, including:

  • Ski Trip
  • Backpacking at Roaring Run
  • Fishing trip
  • Climbing Trip
  • Rafting
  • Summer Camp at Bowman!

Honestly, what more could you ask for in a scouting program!

FYI, the items in (Red) are just proposed themes for the meeting and subject to change.  This calendar is a living document, and while I would love for everything to be set in stone, it is always evolving…

AVIATION MERIT BADGE:

Our first activity is just a week away, see message below concerning our Walking Tour in support of the Aviation Merit badge.  It should be a fun day and I hope you will sign up!

Next Saturday, January 14th, Mr. Dalton will lead a group of Scouts to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum to work on some of the requirements for the Aviation merit badge. In addition to touring the museum to see some amazing aircraft, we’ll explore the forces that work on airframes, learn to use a sectional chart to plan a flight, and talk about careers in aviation.

If you’d like to join the group, here’s what you should do:

  1. Sign up using the Google Form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd6XMelqJnJ6ywo3UcRSDVyY47d04gm-_wxG85fNaWm-Y2GsA/viewform

  1. Request an Aviation merit badge blue card from Mr. Ramirez.

  1. Pack a bag lunch and your water bottle, wear your uniform, and come along!

The museum is unfortunately located a bit far away from Metro, so we’ll need to drive, but to minimize our environmental impact, we’ll carpool as much as possible. We’ll meet at the IOTH parking lot Saturday morning and depart at 9:30 am, so we’ll be at the museum close to its opening at 10:00 am. (Parents, are you available to drive and provide a ride to some Scouts? Send an email to Mr. Dalton at seanldalton@gmail.com to coordinate rides.)

See you Saturday!
