Scouts, Scouters and Parents,
I just wanted to drop you a short email to let you know that BOTH crews were given our first choice for the Philmont Trek:
7-9 Strenuous- CONFIRMED
I attached to this email an edited version of the trek guide which includes information about this trek.
In the coming few weeks we will need to finalize our travel planning. I also want to remind everyone that you selected a Strenuous trek. That means building up your fitness and backpacking skills are of critical importance.
In order to go with the troop to Philmont you need to participate in the training activities. This is not only to ensure that you have physical strength but also to develop mental stamina, requisite backpacking skills, test/break in your gear and build comradery with the other members of the crew. Prior to Philmont you should try to attend as many as possible, but at least at least four training trips and one of the multi-day treks – either the Dolly Sods trip (May 22-26) or the Lenhok’sin Trip (July 12 -18).
I also encourage you to watch the training videos.

Finally, we want to have as many trained people as possible, so please sign up for Wilderness First Aid Training if you can.
