Scoutmaster-Update

We had another successful week at Goshen, and we enjoyed our time at Camp Bowman.  While there are always challenges, the scouts overcame the obstacles and did great at camp and with patrol cooking!  The scouts were organized into specific cooking patrols, affectionately named by Mr. Devlin as Bigfoot, Yeti, Sasquatch and Skunk Ape (adult patrol).

I believe that we have all raised the bar with respect to cooking, prep and clean up and hopefully the skills that we learned will be translated to our next troop camp out. I absolutely expect better menus in the future and who knew that meatball subs could be so easy to make when camping!  While the dining hall at Olmstead certainly makes things easier and gives us more time, I believe that we had a better quality of food at Bowman, and we all appreciate the food we make ourselves more.

We had the Oreo cookie of weather, rainy at the beginning and at the end and near perfect camping weather in between!  I did a quick count, and it looks like we completed over 80 Merit Badges last week!  Another amazing outing and congratulations to all the scouts, you worked very hard!

I attached a few images of the scouts to this email, however, be sure to check out our Facebook page as Mr. Nguyen, Mr. Dalton. Ms. Berson posted a bunch of other images.

A very special thank you to all the adult leaders (Mr. Dalton, Mr. Irwin, Mr. Devlin (who organized us) Ms. Lloyd and Mr. Nguyen) all who generously gave up their vacation time to be at camp and support all the scouts.  We could not do this without you.  Also, thanks go out to the drivers/bus riders (some of which had to get up very early) so chauffer the scouts (or ride the bus) to and from camp.

TROOP MEETING

We will have an in-person Troop meeting at 7:30PM at Immanuel Church on the Hill this Monday.

Monday’s meeting should be relaxed.  We will focus on advancement and recovery from summer camp.  We will have a Board of Review, review blue cards, and review any partially completed merit badges.  In addition, we will spend some time in the shed to make sure our gear is clean, dry, and organized (especially the patrol bins).  There will certainly be patrol time and I am sure there will be a game or two as well.

For those in the Bowman Brigade please BRING YOUR BOOK!  The older scouts will review what you learned and sign off on any requirements you completed!  We want to make sure we get all our advancements recorded.

Speaking of advancement, the summer is a great time to work on Merit Badges and I have a stack of blank blue cards that I am itching to sign!  Hint, hint!  With school out …. There is no excuse!
