Troop 131,
I hope everyone had a very good and happy Thanksgiving. I know that I needed a bit of a break and was able to recharge my “battery a bit” One last push until the end of the year, so let’s finish strong!
TROOP MEETING & ELECTIONS:
We will have an in-person Troop meeting at 7:30PM at Immanuel Church on the Hill this Monday
Keep in mind that the following week is Troop Elections, so if you are thinking of running for Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) or Patrol Leader (PL), now is a good time to announce your intentions to do so! For SPL, please send me an email or let me know at the meeting. In addition, if you intend to run for Patrol Leader, now is a good time for you to start talking to your patrol mates.
For this next cycle, we are going to merge the Radioactive Scorpions and the Minute Men into a single patrol. I know that they started thinking up a new patrol name at the last meeting, however, I ask that they finalize this at Monday’s meeting.
For the new scouts, the elected SPL appoints the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader(s)(ASPL) and the elected PL appoints the Assistant Patrol Leader (APL).
There are plenty of other leadership positions as well. See below for the most common ones:
- Troop Guide
- Quartermaster
- Scribe
- Chaplains Aid
- Librarian
- Bugler
- Webmaster
- Historian
- Order of the Arrow Representative
- Outdoor Ethics Guide
- Den Chief
If you are not the SPL, ASPL, PL, or APL, then I expect you to step up and take on one of these leadership positions. Leadership is one of the most important parts of scouting and is required for many of the rank advancements!
ARCHITECTURAL WALKING TOUR- TAKE 3 (third time’s a charm)
The rescheduled walking tour is also fast approaching, we will send out the sign-up sheet in a follow-up email, but please make sure you mark your calendars.
Who: Everyone in Troop 131 is invited!
What: Architectural Merit Badge Class and Walking Tour
When: Saturday 10th December: 9:00 AM to Mid Afternoon
Where: Downtown D.C.
Why: Learn about Architecture and many of the interesting buildings downtown.
Bring: Packed Lunch, Plenty of Water and your curiosity
There is one pre (or post) requisite, however, all the other requirements for the merit badge will be covered during the day and tour.
We will start by meeting as a group at the Braddock Metro Station at 9:00 AM (we have extra metro cards if anyone needs one) and then travel by metro to Mark Ramirez’ office (Hickok Cole Architects) 301 N Street, NE in Union Market.
We will tour the office, learn about the history of Architecture, understand the process of building design, talk about sustainable buildings, and learn about the tools used in Architectural design. We will use a VR headset, see the model shop in action, look at drawing sets, touch building material samples, learn how Architects Draw and see both handmade & 3D printed models.
If the weather is nice, we will eat our packed lunch on the roof terrace and then walk from the Union Market area to NOMA (North of Mass Ave) thru Chinatown, into downtown and finally end up at the national mall. All along the way, we will talk about buildings, identify their components, and determine the time/era they were built. After sketching a building our two on the mall then we will head back to the metro and back to the Braddock Station
Parents are most certainly welcome to attend. Hope you will join us for a fun day.
